Is this service right for your project?
For businesses with an existing website that want clearer, more useful information about their services in AI-powered discovery. We review how your brand is described, which customer questions your content answers, and where your website needs technical or editorial improvements.
What to prepare
Share your website, priority services, target audience, and the questions prospects ask before buying. Bring approved company facts, evidence for your claims, and analytics or search reporting if available. We agree on which platforms and questions to evaluate during discovery.
Read our planning guideHow a GEO engagement works
- Step 01
Baseline
Agree the customer questions and platforms to evaluate, then record how answers currently describe your business and which sources they cite.
- Step 02
Audit
Check crawler access in robots.txt, server-rendered content, indexing status, structured data, internal links, and consistency of company information.
- Step 03
Improve
Rewrite priority pages with direct answers, evidence, and FAQs. Fix technical issues and align structured data with visible content.
- Step 04
Measure
Repeat the same checks after publication, compare them with the baseline, and review referral visits and enquiries where data is available.
How is GEO different from SEO?
GEO does not replace SEO. It uses the same technical foundations and adds checks on how AI-generated answers describe and cite your business.
| Aspect | SEO | GEO |
|---|---|---|
| Main goal | Rank pages in search results and earn clicks | Be accurately mentioned and cited in AI-generated answers |
| Where results appear | Search result listings | AI Overviews, AI Mode, and assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity |
| Foundations | Crawlable, indexable pages with relevant content and links | The same foundations, plus direct answers, consistent company facts, and supporting evidence |
| What is measured | Impressions, rankings, and clicks | Mentions, citations, and factual accuracy across an agreed question set, plus referrals where available |
What the platforms say
- Google Search Central: AI features and your website
Pages must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet to appear as supporting links in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- Google Search Central: Structured data general guidelines
Structured data should describe content that is visible to readers on the page.
- OpenAI: Overview of OpenAI crawlers
OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, and ChatGPT-User can each be allowed or blocked in robots.txt.
- llms.txt proposal
An emerging convention for a plain Markdown site summary. It is not a confirmed ranking factor.
A focused GEO audit and content pilot
Start with an agreed set of customer questions and priority pages. Record a visibility baseline, review technical access and content gaps, then improve a small group of pages with clear answers, supporting evidence, and appropriate structured data. Repeat the same checks after publication and document what changed.
How to evaluate success
Track mentions, source citations, and factual accuracy across an agreed question set, recording the platform, date, and repeat observations. Review attributable referral visits and enquiries where available. Treat answer checks as a sample, not a complete measure of reach.
These are proposed scope and measurement examples, not reported client results. Targets and responsibilities are agreed during discovery.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): common questions
What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?
GEO is work aimed at improving how a business is discovered and represented in AI-generated answers. Our service combines website auditing, useful and evidence-backed content, consistent brand information, and measurement against agreed customer questions.
How does this engagement fit with SEO?
We plan GEO alongside your existing SEO work. The scope includes technical accessibility, internal links, and content quality, with additional checks on brand mentions, citations, and accuracy in AI answers.
Can you guarantee inclusion in AI answers?
No. We commit to agreed audits, improvements, and reporting, but cannot promise rankings, mentions, citations, or traffic from third-party platforms. We review repeated observations and business outcomes with you before expanding the work.
Do we need to rebuild our website?
We begin with your existing site. A first engagement can focus on selected service pages, FAQs, technical fixes, and reporting. Any development or wider redesign is scoped separately before implementation.
What happens after the initial audit?
You receive a prioritised action plan. We can implement the agreed content and technical changes, then arrange recurring checks and updates as a separate ongoing scope. Review dates, reporting access, and responsibilities are agreed before work starts.
Should we allow AI crawlers in robots.txt?
It depends on your goals. Search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, and PerplexityBot help AI search features find your pages, while training crawlers such as GPTBot are a separate choice. We review your robots.txt with you and document the trade-offs.
What is llms.txt and do we need it?
llms.txt is a proposed plain Markdown file that summarises a website and links to its key pages for language models. It is quick to add, but no AI provider has confirmed it as a ranking factor, so we treat it as a supporting step rather than a priority.
